Arms and Armor: A Pictorial Archive from Nineteenth-Century Sources (Dover Pictorial Archive)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (01 September, 1995)
Average review score:

Excellent source for Medieval clip art!I publish newsletters for a non-profit organization that re-creates the Middle Ages to educate people about history - the Society for Creative Anachronism. "Arms & Armor" has been an invaluable resource to handsomely illustrate the pages of my newsletters. Dover's copyright on this book allows the use of 10 images per project - which is very generous, considering some other clip art books only allow 4 or 5 per project. Furthermore, the country and century from which the images were cultivated is listed at the bottom of every page. This is immensely helpful for using these images in education. When one of our members writes an article about 16th century German horse armor, I can find an exact image to match his/her description in the article. There is a wide variety of images to choose from, including sketches of helmets, swords, axes, full suits of armor, shields, battle scenes and armor accoutremonts. I have owned this book for three years, and I use it with almost every newsletter issue I publish. I consider it an essential resource for SCA newsletter illustration.

Art Nouveau Motifs and Vignettes (Dover Pictorial Archive Series)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (March, 1989)
Average review score:

Lots of simple, PRETTY designsThis book was everything I hoped it would be. One thing, it is more of a 'magazine' type book, but still has fabulous pictures in it. I have used two of the beautiful, unique designs in this book as TATTOOS! It has fabulous ultra-feminine desigs that are much better than the run-of-the-mill tribal art or celtic art designs. I also use the designs for scrapbooking. At the price this is offered for, you can't beat it!

Art Nouveau Typographic Ornaments (Dover Pictorial Archive Series)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (October, 1982)
Average review score:

A fabulous resource for black and white ornamentsThis book contains hundreds of black and white images, borders, ornaments, rules, corners and other graphics. The pages are printed on both sides, it is necessary to make a xerox copy of a page before attempting to scan, or ghost-through will occur. The copyright notice is somewhat confusing, it appears to be a boiler-plate for use in books containing alphabets and states that use is free for no more than "six words composed from them", although there are no alphabets in this particular book. The images once scanned and digitally tweaked make wonderful graphics to create intricate selections from within your graphics application.

Attention-Getters: 60 Black-And-White Pressure-Sensitive Stickers (Dover Instant Art Stickers)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (August, 1994)
Average review score:

They definitely get attention!I ordered these on a whim, seeing as the price was only a dollar. I figured, hey, I can stick them on telephone booths if nothing else. :-) Well, I took them with me to school (I'm a high school junior) and had a ton of fun with them. Stickers with sayings like "FREE!" "Limited Time Offer" "Out of Order" and "You Want This!" become a lot of fun when stuck on a piece of homework, a bathroom door, or even just the nearest person.
I don't know if I'd recommend them for serious advertising, because the format and appearance isn't very formal, but for making flyers etc. or just having fun, they are great! And what a price! I highly recommend buying a pack of these entertaining stickers.

Authentic Celtic Iron-On Transfers (Dover Little Transfer Books)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (December, 1994)
Average review score:

A Celtic craftersIf you love Celtic decoration, and would like small designs to incorporate into your work this is a perfect book. The designs are small, but still large enough to work with and are wonderful to embroider. They can also be used for other crafts such as woodburning. The designs are varied with usually more than one size of a design style, and each transfer (in most cases) can be used more than once. The only drawbacks I see are the fact that the design cannot be washed out so, if you are embroidering it you need to be sure to cover all the lines, and because there are several designs on a page they must be cut out to work with which in most cases leaves you with a tiny piece of paper to work with. Making it difficult to pin it down and to iron. But it is a wonderful book of designs and the pluses far outweigh those two negatives. Dover tends to publish some wonderful transfer books at extremely reasonable prices and this book truly fits in both catagories.
